Closed circuit television (CCTV) systems can be used to provide remote monitoring of a few access points and the facility boundary, or to enable one person to visually monitor many sites and access points from a central location.

CCTV is often used in conjunction with a multi-layered access control system. Traditional cameras can be used to add a visible deterrent to perpetrators, or pinhole and lipstick cameras can discretely capture images. A permanent visual record can be provided by including digital video recorders as part of a CCTV system.
